Does Toy Story 3 Have A Chance at Best Picture Oscar

The Walt Disney Company continues to march ahead with its promotional campaign to win the Best Picture Academy Award for Pixar’s Toy Story 3. It’s not a question of which film is the best reviewed, Toy Story 3 wins that, the question is will members of the academy ever give best picture to an animated film. At least that’s what the LA Times wants to know:

I think Pixar’s “Toy Story 3″ is easily one of the best films of 2010, but its chances of winning an Oscar for best picture this year are about as good (and I say this as a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan) as the Cubs winning the World Series. It just ain’t gonna happen — not as long as most of the motion picture academy seems to view family-oriented animation films as lightweight fare.

Of course, I think Oscar handicappers may be forgetting one little thing, couldn’t the academy take into account the body of work put forth by Pixar and want to award them for that? After UP was nominated last year, I think the idea of a animated film winning is a little more likely.
