Top Five Places to Enjoy Ice Cream at Walt Disney World

It’s getting hot in central Florida. But it’s not the heat that gets you. It’s the humidity. What better way to beat the heat than to cool off with a tasty ice cream treat. So without further ado, here’s my take on the top 5 places to enjoy ice cream at Walt Disney World.

5. Seashore Sweets – Not many people know about this location at the Boardwalk Resort, but the prices are very reasonable and the hand scooped ice cream is delicious. They also make a mean shake.

4. Beaches and Cream – It doesn’t matter if you find a few friends to go with, or challenge yourself to finish it all, but every Disney fan needs to encounter the Kitchen Sink at some point in their life. What, you may ask, is the Kitchen Sink? It’s eight scoops of ice cream served with all the toppings in the house and a whole can of whipped cream served, of course, in a kitchen sink. The other ice cream dishes, like the No Way Jose sundae, are pretty good too.

3. On Main Street U.S.A. – Nothing beats sharing an ice cream sundae while waiting for the Main Street Electrical Parade. The ‘Plaza’ Sundae from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor with Mint Chocolate Chip instead of Vanilla is my favorite. Of course, nobody says you have to share.

2. Ghirardelli’s in Downtown Disney – As you might expect from the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop, the hot fudge sundae here is a masterpiece of fun. But the real treat here is the Warm Brownie Sundae. Try the death by chocolate version and ask for chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla.

1. Anywhere! – Grab a Mickey Bar from the nearest ice cream cart and enjoy a unique bit of Mickey Mouse shaped fun nearly anywhere in the Walt Disney World resort. Grab a few extra napkins too, things could get messy on a really hot day.

I can’t believe Aloha Isle didn’t make your list–I know that a Dole Whip is not, strictly speaking, ice cream, but it is one of the Disney foods of legend.

I was going to ask the same question. Aloha Isle’s Pinapple Float should most definitely make this list.

I also like Dolphin Fountain @… the Dolphin,
Soft serve place in MK across from where 20k Leagues used to be
I DO wish they’d make B&C larger. The waits have become extensive to get a seat.

I’m a big fan of getting a scoop in a cup at Hollywood Scoops, over on Sunset at DHS. A good little selection of flavors, a nice-sized scoop for the price, and excellent people-watching as everyone passes to go to Tower or Coaster.

Beaches and Cream is one of my favorites for sundaes. I have to agree with John, Aloha Isle has awesome pineapple and vanilla swirled soft serve. I don’t go to the MK without getting one!

Another good treat is the ice cream cookie sandwich at Main Street Bakery. They serve three scoops of vanilla ice cream between two of their huge fresh baked cookies (I get the chocolate chip). It’s big enough to share!

I personally am a fan of another hidden place, Ms. Potts in Fantasyland. The Sundays (especially the brownie one) is very reasonable and just to die for!

We’ve loved the gelato at the Beach Club Market Place for years. It’s been our favorite thing to do on our first day at WDW. Our last evening always included a gelato stop. Sadly they are no longer serving the homemade gelato. The freezer case has been replaced with more pastries and muffins. Guest relations advises that if enough people ask for the return of the homemade gelato it would be taken under advisement by management. If anyone else misses the gelato write to WDW.Guest.Communications@disneyworld.com. Gelato lovers unite!

Just discovered this site – love it!!

In my not so humble opinion, the best ice cream product on WDW property is a rootbeer float from Sleepy Hollow. That will be my first stop when I hit the MK this fall. Second best is the Pistachio gelato at the Italy pavilion at EPCOT. While gelato is not hard to find, I find that pistachio flavor is.
