Eddie Carroll, voice of Jiminy Cricket, dies

When Cliff Edwards, who originated the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Disney’s Pinocchio, died in 1971, Disney knew who would be perfect as the voice of the company’s conscious — Eddie Carroll. Even though Jiminy is a small cricket, he had big shoes to fill. Carroll was already an accomplished comedian and voice actor so the transition was quite seamless.

Carroll was also an incredible impersonator and his impression of Jack Benny was justifiably awarded. Our thoughts and regards are with his friends and family.

The tributes are rolling, here are a few I think give a broad representation of the man and his work.

LaughingPlace.com has linked to a couple of their prior interviews with Carroll.

Voice Actor News has a touching tribute to one of their most successful members.

  2. Eddie Carroll was an amazing person. I had the chance to meet him in September at D23. His interview on the WaltCast Podcast was the best interview I ever heard. He will be deeply missed by many Disney fans.

  3. I met Eddie Carroll at the D23 expo too! He was so nice, he was interviewed for Disney Channel just as I walked up; there were tons of people around and he took the time to sign his autograph and take a picture with me. Thanks for such a great memory Mr. Carroll; we’ll miss you!
