When it times of tough economics, the nations television viewing habits turn toward the sit-com. The Cosby Show, Roseanne, and others got their start by riffing on the American family dealing with daily situations. ABC seems to have hit about the formula that works for our present day situation with “Modern Family”.
“Modern Family” is the most critically acclaimed and popular new comedy of the TV season, the centerpiece of ABC’s Wednesday lineup and already renewed for a second season. Not only does it fulfill a comedy’s central mission — provide genuine laughs — it nudges preconceptions and isn’t afraid to show some heart amid a sea of snark and irony on television.
“I know we’re not curing cancer,” said Burrell, who portrays the earnest goofball dad Phil Dunphy, “but it feels nice to see people affected by the show.”
I’m not a bit sit-com watcher, but I love Modern Family. It makes me laugh, which sometimes is just what I need these days. Do you watch the show? What do you like about it?

I LOVE Modern Family! It never feels like it’s trying to hard, or trying to be something it’s not.
Also, several of the stars have twitter accounts and post pictures of themselves on set; you can tell that this cast LOVES each other and has a genuinely good time making the show.
We love the show at our house. I think the actors click and it makes the characters shine. I’ve seen a few of the actors being interviewed and they seem so happy and really enjoy the work they do. I think the show reaches out to so many different families, how can you not relate to them?
We love Modern Family! It’s almost like “family game night”. We make it a point to all watch together.
The writing is hilarious and the cast is wonderful….all tremendously funny and entertaining. Plus, I do think it has some really great family messages.
We even watch the reruns. Definitely our favorite show this season.
I love Modern Family but absolutely loathe ABC for letting shows like Better Off Ted, Eastwick and Defying Gravity get the short end of the marketing stick. Steve McPherson needs to be fired ASAP! ABC got lucky on Wednesday night (remember the classic comedy Hank?) and hopefully Modern Family continues to thrive despite ABC being involved.
