Wizarding World of Harry Potter attraction, dining, and shop names

Update: 9/15/09 – Universal Orlando confirms names below, fills in a few blanks.

The name of the new land devoted to the wizard kid Harry Potter at Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure theme park has been known to be “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” for some time. But now a legal search has revealed the names filed by Universal for the attractions, dining locations, and shops that will open in the land.

The WWoHP will have two main areas, Hogwarts and Hogsmeade Village, and will encompass and retheme two existing attractions, Dueling Dragons and the Flying Unicorn coaster.

Now according to the trademark filings the main attraction that will feature robocoaster technology and will inhabit the interior of Hogwarts will be called “Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey.” This features a flying car and a trip through the Forbidden Forrest (among other scenes).

The kid friendly Flying Unicorn will become “”Flight of the Hippogriff” and Dueling Dragons will become “Dragon Challenge”. I hope they work hard to keep all the great details of the Dueling Dragons queue. It’s one of the best outside Disney.

There will be three dining locations: Three Broomsticks, Magic Neep, and Butterbeer. Stores and retail locations include: Zonko’s, Owl Post, Ollivanders, Honeydukes, and Dervish and Banges.

These names fill in some rather large blanks in the picture of what will eventually become Orlando’s biggest draw of 2010 when the main attraction opens.

  2. So, when this opens, will it reduce the Disney crowds (i.e. will more people just go to Universal), or make them worse (i.e. will people go down just for this, and add a few days at Disney while down there?)

Trying to figure out if I should plan a Disney trip when this opens :)

    1. Knowing how idiotic some of Universal’s marketing has been in the past, it’ll probably just convince people to go to Disney instead of Universal altogether.

  3. The main attraction will not be in a flying car, it will be on a large antique wooden bench, like one you’d find in a hall of Hogwarts.

  4. I think the new Harry Potter land in Universal will be so much fun! The rides sound amazing and I can only imagine how great they’ll do on the attractions. Unfortunetly though, I don’t think crowds will die down in Disney. I think perhaps more people will choose to visit Universal in addition to their Disney trip, but not completely neglect Disney.

  6. Yes i heard that the main attraction was not going to be in a flying car either. but would be going around inside hogwarts. Something about scenes being shown in that ride as well. but i really have no idea if that is true.
All i know is that I am really glad they are putting in Olivanders even though they technically are not doing Diagonalley. I wish that there was a spot to exchange muggle money for wizarding money too! i dont know why they are arent making a gringotts!
