Did you know that today is National Peanut Butter and Jelly day? If you happen to be at Disney’s Hollywood Studios you can celebrate in unique style with the 50’s Prime Time Café Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake.
At the nostalgic 50’s Prime Time Café, where Disney’s Hollywood Studios guests are reminded to clean their plates and keep their elbows off the table, one unique menu item has been as much a restaurant fixture as Lucy reruns.
“Some people come just to get the peanut butter and jelly milk shake,” says Disney cast member David Mitchell, who has served up his share of the cooling, tastebuds-caressing treat.
For guests it’s a trip down memory lane at the end of a straw – only the old peanut butter and jelly sandwiches mom made were never this yummy.
It all happened quite by accident, recalled one member of the food and beverage team that launched 50’s Prime Time with the opening of the park in 1989. Their charge: working with consultants, come up with a 1950s-inspired menu.
“We had a swirled jelly and peanut butter product we used on the sandwiches,” he remembers. “We were experimenting with milk shakes in the kitchen and wondered what would happen if we dropped in a spoonful and blended it with ice cream.”
With a few refinements, the signature peanut butter and jelly shake was born. PB&J anchors a line of shakes that includes pumpkin spice for Halloween, peppermint for the holidays and tried-and-true vanilla, chocolate and strawberry. The restaurant also prides itself as the only place on Disney property that dishes up campfire-style s’mores, a Graham cracker crowned by chocolate and toasted marshmallows.
50’s Prime Time Café Peanut Butter and Jelly Milkshake Ingredients:
* 4 ounce Peanut Butter
* 4 Ounce Grape Jelly
* 72 Ounces Vanilla Ice Cream
* 8 Ounces Milk
* 8 Ounces Pure Vanilla Extract
Place flavoring in blender. Add milk. Add ice cream. Blend until smooth and thick. Pour into your favorite glass. Makes 4 Portions
