Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Disney Animator’s caught reusing footage

Michael J. Ruocco writes the excellent animation blog “For The Birds.” He recently finished a three-part series that provides visual proof on how Disney’s animators reused animation footage multiple times over the years.

For instance, you may have thought that Bambi’s mother was killed early in the film. But in reality she survived to appear in four more Disney films over the years (Sword in the Stone in 1963, The Jungle Book in 1967, The Rescuers in 1977 with her son, even Beauty and the Beast in 1991). Is that the record for most appearances in Disney Feature Animated Films by one character?

If you pay attention, it sure seems to be they reused the same footage of Kaa falling from a tree in The Jungle Book. Both times it happens, and the resulting slink off with a knot in him, look identical to me.

Maybe it’s (perhaps) a hat-tip to the animators that went before them?
