WDW Celebrations organized the EPCOT 25th Anniversary Fan Celebration and now they’re moving ahead with a similar event for the 10th Anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The Orlando Sentinel picked up the story with a mention in the business briefs section today. (You may have to scroll down)
In the past the Walt Disney Company would have held year long celebrations for the big ‘5’ anniversaries (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50) at its theme parks, but some time after the Magic Kingdom’s 35th Anniversary it was decided to take a more national approach to theme park promotion and the ‘5’ parties fell to the wayside. Disneyland’s 50th was the last, and sometimes it seemed like that was celebrated more in Orlando than Anaheim.
So while I applaud the Disney fan group for their efforts, they shouldn’t have to be doing this. Disney should be promoting these accomplishments themselves. 10 years of the brand new theme park format that is Disney’s Animal Kingdom is something to crow about. It’s the perfect chance to kick off another 10 great years.
