Wow. I don’t know what parts of “show business” this is standard practice for . . . but I would have thought that arena concerts wouldn’t have fallen into that category. It’s not like Bob Dylan or Steve Tyler are sneaking backstage while a stand-in appears.
I know for a fact it happens in Stage Magic, it’s also fairly standard practice in Musicals. Disney famously has a fake Belle and a fake Beast on stage at various times of the production.
Hannah Montana is a Disney character, just like Mickey Mouse. So you just shouldn’t see two of them at the same time.
I think they should have had her leave from the same door HM1 left through, or at least waited long enough that it would look like she had enough time to go from one door to the other.

I saw this concert in person and i saw this happen. It happens during her last song in her set as Hannah Montana. during the bridge of the song she starts to move behind the back up dancers so that she can move to the door, once she has sung her part of the bridge, one of the dancers throws a black blanket over her and leads her to the door, once she is in the door the dancer slides the door so that it closes and the decoy comes out. It goes pretty smoothly so it had me fooled at first. In defense she has to do it so that she can change from Hannah to herself quicker. She only has six minutes to change while the Jonas Brothers do a mini-set. It is a smart move if you ask me, she is doing nothing wrong. And she did sing live, i could tell from my floor seats.
