Ratatouille leads nominations for major animation awards

Disney’s merger with Pixar continues to pay off, this time with 13 nominations for Ratatouille at the Annie Awards.

The categories Ratatouille received nominations for are:
Best Animated Feature
Animated Effects (twice! Gary Bruins & Jon Reisch)
Character Animation in a Feature Production
Character Animation in a Television Production
Directing in an Animated Feature Production
Music in an Animated Feature Production
Production Design in an Animated Feature Production
Storyboarding in an Animated Feature Production
Voice Acting in an Animated Feature Production
(three nominations!)
Writing in an Animated Feature Production

Animated films that win the Annie for Best Animated Feature almost always win the Oscar in the same category. Some of those double (and triple) nominations may dilute Pixar’s chance to win that category. Can’t they pair you up when you come from the same company?

Other nominations for the Walt Disney Company include:

Best Animated Short Subject
How to Hook Up Your Home Theater – Walt Disney Feature Animation
Shorty McShorts’ Shorts “Mascot Prep” – Walt Disney Television Animation
Your Friend the Rat – Pixar Animation Studios

Best Animated Television Show
Kim Possible – Walt Disney Television Animation

Best Animated Television Show for Children
Little Einsteins – Disney Channel

Animated Effects
James Mansfield – “How to Hook Up Your Home Theater” – Walt Disney Feature Animation

That’s not even the full list. For all the nominations visit the Annie Awards site.

Finally, a big well deserved congratulations to Jerry Beck over at CartoonBrew.com who will be receiving the June Foray Award for “significant and benevolent or charitable impact on the art and industry of animation”.
