Dancing with the Stars – And the Winner is….

And we’re back.  It seems like I just did this a couple hours ago.

So, the time has come for the finals.  Now normally I say that they cram 25 minutes into an hour.  Tonight’s finale is two hours long.  Yep, I got that fast forward button ready to go.  However, two of the three couple left will dance new routines, so I can’t just skip to the end.  And I always enjoy seeing all the couples again.

They didn’t wait too long.  Right after the first commercial break, they revealed who finished in third – Marie Osmond & Jonathan Roberts.  I’m not surprised after her scores last night.  I knew she had lots of fans, but I really didn’t think it would be enough to save him.  I love her sense of humor, especially attacking the judges at the end.  She has brought lots of laughs to this season.  The other two deserve to be here, so I am not sorry to see her go.

And I’m glad they chose their Tango for their final dance.  It was even more fun this time around.

At this point, I think I am rooting for Helio.  I know, I’ve seen singing the praises of the women this season.  But I’ve enjoyed Helio more this season then Mel.  Yep, I’m fickle.

The returning couples have surprised me this time.  They are giving them time to do a full dance again instead of the 30 seconds they normally get.  It’s kinda fun to see them again for so long.  And they are letting them do their best dances.  Frankly, this makes more sense to me.  I’ve often wondered why they had them do the dance that got them eliminated.  And two of them didn’t dance, which is also a first for the show.  At least Wayne and Floyd did stop by to say hi.

And, if you missed it, Cameron did take his shirt off.  Which lead to some very funny moments as Tom tried to keep things serious and on schedule.  I was absolutely dying.

So, for the final dance, the couples could pick their favorite dance of the season and spice it up.  This should be fun.

Mel B. & Maksim Chmerkovskiy – Mambo – Okay, I don’t really remember that routine from before.  They said they were looking for more energy, and I’d say they hit it.  The judges had nothing but praise.  Carrie Ann made it look like she was going to criticize them, but in the end she praised it as well.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 Bruno – 10 Total – 30  Okay, not too big a surprise based on the comments, but after the harsh scores from last night, you never know.

Helio Castroneves & Julianne Hough – Quickstep – I’m really not sure they did much to the routine, but it is hard to improve on perfection.  And they did get a perfect score the first time around for this dance.  And he got nothing but praise once again.
Scores: Carrie Ann – 10 Len – 10 Bruno – 10 Total – 30  I think it would have taken a major flaw to give them anything less.  Heck, I was so sure of it, I filled in the score before they announced it.

I’ve got to give them credit.  They did a better job keeping me entertained during the finale then normal.

So, after two hours, the winner is finally announced.  And the winners areā€¦Helio & Julianne.

With all the strong women, I am surprised that a man won.  But Helio was a strong dancer and his win didn’t surprise me.  I had my eye on him from the beginning to go far.  Mel was a great dancer, so it’s not like it was a clear choice.

And this brings a wonderful and dramatic season to an end.  I’ve had fun sharing it with you.  And yes, I’m looking forward to season 6 starting in March.
