Disneyworld Worker arrested on Child Abuse charges

An electrical maintenance worker at Walt Disney World was arrested on charges that he molested a young girl over multiple years. The alleged child abuse did not involve children on the Walt Disney World property. A Disney spokesperson says the accused has been placed on unpaid leave pending the outcome of the charges.

Walt Disney World employees nearly 60,000 workers in the central Florida area. Frankly, I’m astonished we don’t hear stories like this more often. But it is always sad when we do. (Via the Orlando Sentinel)

  1. Thanks for the link. In the comments section of our article is an ongoing discussion of whether we are overplaying the story because of the Disney connection — or if it is relevant at all. I’d appreciate hearing more thoughts on that, here or there. John Cutter, online news editor, OrlandoSentinel.com

  2. People need to get over the fact that they live in a town dominated by the Tourism and Convention industries. If this was a medical research town or a [insert your industry here] town, I’d expect the Orlando Sentinel to cover the stories generated by those employees as well.

The Orlando Sentinel has begun to integrate blogs quite a bit. That might be the place to expand on stories like this and give some journalist/editorial opinion on why the story is significant. Proximity to children in the workplace, in this instance.
