Theme park attendance in 2006

TEA/ERA and Park World Magazine have picked up where Amusement Business left off with amusement and theme park attendance estimates for 2006. Disney has the top 8 parks and the only US Disney park to not be included in top ten is California Adventure, which rings in at #13. That park needs some help.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom was helped by Expedition Everest, the new roller coaster, and Finding Nemo, the Musical, and had the largest increase in attendance – 8.6%.

1 Magic Kingdom (WDW) – 16.64 Million
2 Disneyland – 14.73 Million
3 Tokyo Disneyland – 12.90 Million
4 Tokyo DisneySea – 12.10 Million
5 Disneyland Paris – 10.60 Million
6 Epcot – 10.46 Million
7 Disney-MGM Studios – 9.10 Million
8 Disney’s Animal Kingdom – 8.91 Million
9 Universal Studios Japan – 8.50 Million
10 Everland (South Korea) – 7.50 Million
13 Disney’s California Adventure – 5.95 Million

The TEA/ERA report (PDF) breaks it down even further and rounds out the top 25 parks.

  1. I know the tendency to bash DCA is not unwarranted, here and elswhere… but…

“Disney has the top 8 parks and the only Disney park to not be included in top ten is California Adventure, which rings in at #13. That park needs some help.”

Umm, Walt Disney Studios Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland also did not make the Top 10. HKDL clocked in at 18th and WDSP isn’t in the Top 25 at all. Sure, that makes DCA the only North American Disney park outside the top 10, but it is not the only blemish in Disney’s theme park crown.
