Articulated Character Heads are puppets not animatronics

Those new rubberheads (previous post) with articulated mouth and eye movements are certainly creating a buzz. For some even better video and still photos of the new character heads, head on over to LaughingPlace.com’s Lotion section. But how do they do that?

The answer appears to be a combination of Disney animatronics and puppetry. If you watch the videos real close you’ll see the characters motioning with their right hands in sync with the eye and mouth movements. Those motions control the mechanics inside the rubberhead. Just like a virtual reality glove. This was just confirmed to me by multiple sources.

I’d love to see exactly how it works and will try to get you more details if I can.
