Walt Disney Concert Hall officially owned by Los Angeles County

After a troubled beginning The Walt Disney Concert Hall is now officially owned by Los Angeles County. Even better the hall has completely paid off its debt. How’s that for a building that was supposed to be totally covered by Lillian Disney’s initial $50 million dollar grant and then ballooned to over $270 million in construction costs.

The Walt Disney Concert Hall, an ironic name since Walt could hardly sit still through a concert or opera (but he was a big patron of the arts, not to mention CalArts), now shines as an example of what Los Angeles can do and is a beacon drawing vibrancy back into the downtown area of what was once a largely forgotten area.
