Disney’s Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House

Halloween is fast approaching. If you’re looking for some scary sounds to deck your haunted mansion this year, then you should checkout this 1964 Disney Album, "Disney’s Chilling, Thrilling Sounds of the Haunted House." I had this album, or a version of it, as a kid in the 70s. The Chinese Water Torture segment still haunts me.

See the excellent Doombuggies.com for more information on the various versions of this wonderful collection of sounds from Disney’s special effects department.

  1. Wow, I had this album too! Played it for years on end every Halloween. Sadly it got lost in the shuffle in one of my many moves. Thanks for reuniting me with it!

Incidentally, I could swear the “cat fight” track consists of sound efx used in either The Aristocats or Lady and the Tramp.

  2. The Catfight sounds are definitely in soundtracks of : Great Mouse Detective, The Moon Spinners, Aristocats and Lady & Tramp.

I think “screams” are also in Great Mouse Det.

  3. This was a treasured find. I hadn’t heard the album in years. Mine was lost many moons ago (back in the late 80s). Unfortunately, the “clearer links” link was dead, but no matter.

Now that I have the original “record quality” originals, I can have fun digitally restoring them. Thanks again. This is awesome.

  4. I have very fond and freaked out memories of this album as a child…I listened to it over and over…it was fascinating to me….and i loved the album art of the black and white house with the lightning and the graveyard….i thought it was so scarry!! LOL….I had not seen this album in years and thought i never would again…my mother passed away about 3 years ago…and my sister had a record cabinet from my parents home..i was visiting her last month and was looking through the old records and there it was..still with my name on it from when i was little….i brought it home…i cant believe my mother held onto it for so long and i am so glad she did!!!
