Disney captures Motion Capture Director Zemeckis

  • by

In a move that will further Disney’s quest to reclaim the crown of King of Animation, they have signed Robert Zemeckis to a multi-year deal. Zemeckis, who worked with Disney in the past on Who Framed Roger Rabbit, is valued for his recent work on motion capture animation technology on such films as Polar Express and Monster House. A major advantage of the motion capture technology is the cost savings it represents. The Monster House budget was a rumored $75 million, about half the cost of a CG or Hand Drawn feature has been running.

Another side benefit of this is that Zemeckis comes to Disney from Dreamworks, perhaps Disney’s biggest rival in animation since the acquisition of Pixar. (Link)
