Probably one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. I agree with your assessment — I don’t know what to make of it either, or even dare to ask the question, “why?”; and yet, it’s like a train wreck: you just can’t take your eyes off of it. Frrrrreaky fun.
The site ytmnd (you the man now dog) is kind of weird, and a melting pot of weird american cultural icons, most all the images in the lil’ movie are from jokes on the site.
