Fairy Power

Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and Winnie-The-Pooh have all held the crown in the past. But this year Disney is place its money on a little Pixie and her friends to sell the most merchandise. Tinker Bell will anchor the new Disney Fairies licensing line that Disney hopes will target the 5-9 year old market.

On a related note, Tinker Bell will get her own direct-to-dvd movie, due on shelves next year. Unfortunately it looks like Disney couldn’t resist messing with the classic character and will be giving her a voice (Brittany Murphy). I understand it’s difficult to carry a movie these days with a main character who doesn’t talk (and how would you explain the other fairies not talking), but how am I going to explain to my kid that Tinker Bell who doesn’t talk in Peter Pan, suddenly talks in this movie?

I dont know how old your child is – but maybe you could try the ‘she & Peter Pan communicate by talking in their heads, so she never has to talk out loud’ line? And ‘when she leaves NeverLand, or if Pan’s not around, she CAN talk, she just has to want to really badly’? Pretty weak…but it was all I could come up with!! (my kids 12 now)
I stumbled across your site and love it!! Keep up the great work!

“I understand it’s difficult to carry a movie these days with a main character who doesn’t talk”… Disney did a fine job with Dumbo.

But really, I don’t see a problem with Tink talking especially with other fairies since we might not be able to understand fairy but I’m sure other fairies can. :)

I’ve been watching tinkerbell since I can remember, although that’s not the longest time seeing as I’m 12. I’m a huge tink fan I have a whole lanyard reserved for her pins and have shirts for everytime I go to Disney, which is at least 3 or 4 times a year and sometimes more. I like her attitude without a voice. I’m not sure I like the idea. It just doesn’t seem right.

Alas, the movie keeps getting pushed back. Right now I hear they’re thinking sometime in 2008 or spring 2009.
