Johnny Depp on Pirates of the Caribbean Cereal… it’s true!

Potccereal
You’ve probably seen Winnie-the-pooh or Mickey Mouse on a box of cereal somewhere (my favorite was Buzz Lightyear), but now be prepared to see the visage of Disney’s latest action hero, Johnny Depp as Captain Jack, gracing the new Pirates of the Caribbean cereal by Kellogg’s.

According to the description on the steering wheel, the cereal will be “Naturally Sweetened
Chocolate Pearl Shaped Cereal with Pirate Shaped Marshmallows”. The marshmallow shapes include hearts, hats, and treasurechests, kind of a Captain Jack Lucky Charms.

And now I think I’ve seen everything.

We’ve had it out here for a while. The boy loves it- basically Coco Puffs mixed with Lucky Charms. Not bad.

Notice that Captain Jack’s rotted teeth aren’t shown on the box.

Psh, I don’t know where you’ve been, but this stuff’s been out for weeks here in middle of nowhere, Ohio (and what excitement there was upon its arrival at the supermarket, too). I can confirm that it is in fact “Naturally Sweetened Chocolate Pearl Shaped Cereal with Pirate Shaped Marshmallows”. The eerily-Cocoa Puff-like “pearls” have a tendency to tear up the roof of your mouth, but the marshmallow-to-pearl ratio ain’t bad.

Test markets are not the same thing as mass market. And Ohio has long been a test market for new products. Ohio is creditted with being the “pulse of America.”

Well, as soon as it comes to your neighbor down south, aka Kentucky, I think I’ll have to try a box. Or two. ;-)

“When’d a heart become a pirate shape?”

When it started involving Johnny Depp. :)

Inspired by Depp’s channeling of Keith Richards for the role, a special heroin-enriched edition will be out soon too. Get your kids hooked now!

I had the chance to test this cereal when I was over in the states recently. I loved it, although my friend and I had a pretty hard time figuring out what the pieces were.

We made a report on “Cereal Science” about the “Pirates of the Caribbean Cereal”, and a few other cereals too, check it out..

My daughter fell madly in love with this cereal, but all the shelves were bare when I tried to replenish her supply this week. In looking online to see if it’s been discontinued, I’ve found a site where I can buy boxes of “POTC: Dead Men Tell No Tales” cereal, but I don’t understand why I can’t find “POTC: Dead Man’s Chest” cereal (which is the same as the “POTC: Curse of the Black Pearl” cereal inside, but just with a new box design). Have all the old boxes just been taken off the shelf until a specific new launch date for the new outer box, or should I be pestering my local grocery stores about the discontinuance??

I bought a box of this cereal just for my kids to try it out. They love it, now I can’t find it. Were they just a promo, or are they here to stay? Bring it back please!!!
