Oh my goodness! I think it was 1966 and I was 10. I was so excited that I could not eat a thing. I kept ordering jumbo-sized sodas and meals, drinking one or two sips or bites, and being unable to finish eating anything. My poor parents. I hope my happiness at being there made up for the fact that they were watching food and money be wasted.
It also was the first time I ever saw miniature white lights in trees – and it wasn’t Christmas! I felt as though there were thousands of lightning bugs at Disneyland with me. They’re ubiquitous now – but I still think of my first visit to Disneyland every time I see them.

I’ve been coming to DL since I was a baby, but the first visit I actually remember was when we went in ’83 when they re-opened Fantasyland after they re-modeled everything and debuted Pinnochio. I remember I got so scared on Pinnochio I wet my pants. Mind you, I was only 3 years old. Stromboli scared the crap out of me. I remember seeing my dad, who had been going to the park since opening day, beam when he saw how great Fantasyland looked. It truly was magical. Things like that are why the park holds such a special place in my heart.
