  1. Just wanted to point out that you’ve typed the name as “Edna Mole” a couple of times now , but the character’s name is Edna Mode , with a “d” .

  2. Edna Mode is the best character I have seen in ages! I am 54 years old and I just ordered four of the Edna dolls…….best line of Incredibles was uttered by Edna – “You know, men of that age are prone to weakness” – LOVE that accent! :) Marcia Matthews

  3. I agree the Edna was INITIALLY based on Edith Head, but what about the Japanese features and the German accent? I don’t think Edith had either of those. I’d love to know where that came from.

  4. My boyfriend and I are fighting over what Edna Mode says to Elastagirl as they are getting ready to go look at the new suits Edna has made. Right before Edna scans her hand she says something similar to blah, blah, blah, and uses a hand motion. What are the words she is saying? (I would love to tell you what I think they are — but I have to fight fair).

    ANXIOUSLY awaiting your response.

    Paul

  5. I believe what she says is (I may not have it exactly, but close I think as my kids have watched this about 100 time) “Words are useless, Dahling, gobble, gobble, gobble”.

My Personal Edna quote is “I never look back, it distracts from the now!”

  6. Edna is supposed to be an eccentric fashion designer, but I say it’s a he not a she. Anyone know for sure?

  7. Edna Mode seems to be a combination of Coco Chanel (famed French fashion diva – the glasses, the hair cuts…spot on) and actress Linda Hunt. That’s my two cents.

  8. In response to PAUL Edna ‘E’ Mode says Elastigirl – “Edna It’s great to see you but i have no idea what you are talking about” , Edna – “Yes words are useless, Goble goble goble goble goble goble, too much of it darling too much, that is why i show you my work that is why you are here.” I would no because i own the DVD and just watched that scene to get every word right

mentioned that Edna is “an amalgam of Edith Head, Karl Lagerfeld and Rei Kawakubo”. I guess Rei is where the Japanese features (and hair) comes from. But with Karl (perhaps it’s the way KL talks?), while I am not sure how Edith and Rei talks, I think the way Issac Mizrahi talks might be a closer match to Edna’s than Karl’s though.

  10. Considering the movie’s overall theme. The obvious nod to Frank LLoyd Wright in the design of E’s home. E’s slavic accent and forceful personality. Has anyone considered the possibility that E is Ayn Rand? I kept looking for Atlas holding up the world in some of her decor, that seemed to be the only thing missing.

  11. i agree, she is the coolest little lady iv ever seen. i want one! i just want to gobble her up.

  12. I figured that Edna was a combination of Edith Head (love her, love her, love her) and Diana Vreeland, late editor of Vogue and the costume consultant for the MMA. And where, oh where, can I find the Edna dolls? She is my heroine and my studio goddess.

  13. In Brad Bird’s own words:

“When I was describing how I wanted her [Edna]to look, I found myself doing the voice. Superheroes always have flamboyant costumes, but it is never explained who makes them. Every now and then they half-heartedly present a scene where the muscle-bound hero is sewing in the basement and I never bought that. I thought, if you had a world populated by superheroes someone would have to be designing stuff for them. She couldn’t just be a designer. She’d also have to be half scientist. Her background is that she is small and powerful, good at design and technology. So I thought she should be half Japanese and half German and that’s kind of where the accent comes from.

  14. “No Capes!” That is my fav. quote from the movie. But, does anyone know exactly what she says about what happened to the other supers with capes?

  15. What Brad did with Edna is worth the entire picture. I loved the character and it was some much fun listening to her talk. Her mannerisms and voice inflection and sentences “I’ll see you in a half hour; okay; Okay bye” type stuff just kills me. Now we have a character that can be used in subsequent movies.

Dahling……what can I say about Edna Mode!

She is confident, unafraid, a visionary, thinks out of the box, friendly, intimidating, loyal, makes a statement, funny, unique and my idol.

I look up to women like that (even though the voice is a man). Well you know there is always a little woman in every man….envy dahling!!!!

  20. Just watched a rerun of Incredibles and Edna is the standout. Just thinking about her makes me laugh. Brad Bird got it perfectly Right!!!!

  21. I think Edna Mode made the movie. I kept hitting rewind to see her parts over and over again. I wish there was more of her in the movie. How about an Incredible II, with Edna bits throughout the entire movie and “No Capes!”
