Up until recently every frame of character animation in Disney films was hand drawn. What the public in the theatre was the prettied up version that had been touched by many hands other than the original artist. But to find some of the purest art of animation you have to look at the original pencil drawings. Steve in the UK has amassed a small collection of these and put them up on the web to share. Many drawings have links to the film frame as well so you can compare. Another neat feature is that he attributes the drawings where possible. Once again, I am blown away by the quality of the Marc Davis sleeping beauty sketches. I don’t think we’ll ever see his like again.
